"I worked with Dan Golden as co-producer and co-writer on Dragon Crest Collective Vol. 1. He is an inventive artist, a brilliant musician, and a nice person. We connected our ideas like I was the plug and he was the socket - harmonious electricity flowed freely between us. DCC vol. 1 was the first record made in my home studio, Dragoncrest. At that time, we listened to a lot of Wu-tang, Beastie Boys, and Parliament funkadelic - he introduced me to Herbie Hancock's record, Secrets. We both loved Mingus and Miles and all of the cool jazz records of the 60's and 70's. I loved writing songs with Dan - ideas flowed effortlessly like squeezing mustard from a tube onto a pastrami sandwich. It's a delicious sounding record. Dan wrote the verse lyrics for Nosedive - I thought the words he chose were clever and hilarious. The song God feels like the music of Flash Gordan meets Chuck D. I love the music video my brother Eric made for We Are The Grandmaz.
It's not only my favorite music video for the work I've written, but also one of my favorite music videos in the canon of all music videos. He's a very gifted filmmaker. To me, the final track Meta is strikingly original; it feels like Bowie meets the theme of a spaghetti western. The main thesis of the record centers on the power of a collaborative spirit and being free with ideas of musical sorcery. We were not leading the ideas, but rather letting the ideas lead us into a natural unveiling of creative alchemy." – Pete Francis
